ABOUT THE COLOURWAY
Mustard Yellow is a rich yellow with a slightly acidic edge softened by earthy undertones, giving this classic shade a more contemporary feel. HANDMADE IN NEPAL
AURA QUE has worked with the artisans who make our classic wool knitwear since 2009. The designs are hand-knitted by artisans in Kathmandu, Nepal, working within a collective certified by the World Fair Trade Organization. The knitters work from home, allowing them to fit their work around family commitments while earning an income. Urmila coordinates the team, training the women to produce each design and distributing the yarn and materials needed for production.
MATERIAL, CRAFT & NATURAL VARIATION
Our wool accessories are hand-knitted and crocheted from mulesing-free 100% sheep wool. A breathable and resilient fibre that is both renewable and biodegradable, wool naturally resists odours and requires relatively infrequent washing. Shades of grey, brown and cream are undyed, while other colours are produced using azo-free dyes. These designs are unlined, allowing the natural texture and elasticity of the knitted wool to provide a comfortable fit; for extra softness and warmth against the skin, explore our jersey-lined wool accessories.
MORE ABOUT THE ARTISAN PROCESS
- Design & training: Urmila works with AURA QUE on developing the samples, and then trains the knitters in the patterns and techniques needed for the final designs.
- Preparing the yarn: The wool yarn needed to make each AURA QUE design is prepared and distrubuted to the knitters.
- Knitting by hand: Each piece is knitted or crocheted by hand using traditional knitting techniques. The women artisans are able to complete the work at home, fitting paid work around their family and other commitments.
- Finishing & checking: Each piece is carefully finished and checked before leaving the workshop. Subtle variations in the knitted finish reflect the character of something made by hand.
