Any hand-carved details are added before each piece is dried in the sun, glazed and fired at high temperatures in large kilns. To maximise efficiency, not an inch of space is wasted in the kilns, which run for days at a time to maintain the heat. The high firing temperature makes our stoneware ceramics dishwasher and microwave safe, and reassuringly chip resistant. Please note that slight variations are part of the appeal of our stoneware, so these pieces are not appropriate for those seeking production line uniformity. Read our blog post about how our ceramics are made here. The richly coloured glazes used for our stoneware are sourced from North India.
These stoneware ceramic designs are handmade by a large collective in Kathmandu, Nepal, certified by the World Fair Trade Organization. AURA QUE started working with the group in 2019. The artisans benefit from numerous initiatives, including allowances for family medical care and children's education, and a savings scheme. The organisation is active in reducing its environmental impact and has moved to electric firing for ceramics and away from kerosene-based firing. Learn more about the World Fair Trade Organization here. AURA QUE products are individually handcrafted and the unique story behind each AURA QUE product enhances its charm!
